I like the game mechanics. Faster. Players can do more from the start. XP earned on failed roll. 2d6 system adding d20 bonus stats, so it's a mix of systems and dice. One roll determines if player succeeds AND if enemy succeeds. Separate roll for damage.
In group attack, one roll for damage then add 1 for each member of the attacking group.
If I use Tiny Dungeon (or EZD6), one roll could determine hits from player and enemy! 5,6 is hit to enemy; 3,4 both player and enemy get hits; 1,2 enemy gets a hit on player.
Characters in Dungeon World begin with their maximum hit points, which never increase as they level up, making low-level characters tougher. Without AC and starting level 1 at full hit points really makes these characters more capable. I like that. I think they use assign base hit points to each class and player adds they CON number (full number, not bonus number).
I like this idea because the description of attempt and result is triggered by fewer rolls...In tinyd6 one roll would do it all. In other system, damage would be separate roll.
This takes away evasion as an action, maybe?
Experience is gained on a failed roll (full or both partial?)
- 📚 Dungeon World is a tabletop RPG book by Sage Latura and Adam Coble.
- ⏰ The review is not timely, as the book was released 5-6 years ago and is now in its sixth printing.
- 🎨 RPGs today feature fantastic artwork and slick pages, unlike the older days of publishing any role-playing game.
- ⚔️ Dungeon World resembles Dungeons & Dragons (D&D) in terms of ability scores, classes, levels, and hit points.
- 🎲 The resolution system in Dungeon World uses a pair of six-sided dice (2d6) and adds ability score modifiers.
- ✅ Results of 10-12 indicate success, 7-9 indicate success with complications, and 6 or below indicate failure (earning an experience point).
- 🌉 Examples are given to demonstrate how the resolution system works, such as leaping over a chasm and combat encounters.
- 🤼 In combat, only players roll the dice, eliminating the need for initiative and multiple rolls for each combatant.
- 💥 Damage calculation is simplified, and armor absorbs damage in Dungeon World, making combat faster and more exciting.
- ❤️ Characters in Dungeon World begin with their maximum hit points, which never increase as they level up, making low-level characters tougher.
- 🐉 Monster descriptions are concise, focusing on damage, hit points, armor, and a few lines of text, allowing Dungeon Masters to create statistics quickly.
- 🎯 Dungeon World offers a streamlined system for quick gameplay, making it suitable for players with limited time or new to role-playing games.
- 💰 Dungeon World is considered a bargain at $20, containing a wealth of information comparable to the D&D hardback books.
